The Leapfrog Group recently recognized Lancaster General Hospital’s outstanding commitment to patient safety by awarding a Hospital Safety Grade of “A.”
The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit health-care ratings organization. Its Hospital Safety Grade assigns letter grades of A, B, C, D and F to hospitals nationwide based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms.
LGH was one of 750 hospitals awarded an “A” for its commitment to keeping patients safe and meeting the highest safety standards in the United States.
“Lancaster General Health has no higher priority than providing our patients with safe, high-quality health care,” said Jan Bergen, President & CEO, Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health. “We are proud to receive this national recognition affirming our commitment to patient safety and sharing critical safety information transparently with our community.”

“This is the only national rating of how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm and death, such as medical errors, infections and injuries,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Receiving an ‘A’ Safety Grade means a hospital is among the best in the country for preventing these terrible problems and putting their patients first, 24 hours a day.”
Developed under the guidance of a Blue Ribbon National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

Guest Services team gets a new look

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health’s Guest Services staff and greeters have a new look.

The team members who often represent the first impression of LG Health now wear red tops – shirts, blazers, sweaters, vests or jackets – to make them easily recognizable for patients and visitors.

The new uniforms ensure a consistent look for anyone who welcomes and guides patients and visitors at a Penn Medicine location. These “Red Coat Ambassadors” play a key role in promoting a positive patient experience.

Team members wearing the new uniforms include Guest Services greeters at the outside entrances, lobby and information desks at Lancaster General Hospital, as well as the valet team at the 2100 entrance of the Suburban Pavilion and cart drivers at Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute.
