Chief Clinical Officer Michael Ripchinski, M.D., and Tammy Ober, Senior Vice President, have announced the following leadership changes in the Department of Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging:

  • John Briguglio, M.D., recently stepped down as Department Chair.
  • George Galanis, M.D., has been named Department Chair.
  • Matthew C. Wiggins, M.D., has been named Department Vice Chair.
  • Nitin K. Tanna, M.D. will assume an increased role in breast health.

Department of Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging Announces Leadership Changes

John Briguglio
John Briguglio, M.D.

Dr. John Briguglio recently stepped down as the Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging Department Chair. Dr. Briguglio has served in this role for the past three years. Under his leadership, the department has expanded the service offerings in Interventional Radiology. Dr. Briguglio played an integral role in bringing Neuroendovascular services to Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health.

Dr. Briguglio will continue in his roles as Medical Director of the Interventional Vascular Unit and Section Chief of Interventional Radiology. He will also continue to participate in the integration of the Crew Resource Safety Program into the physician and staff culture in the department.


George Galanis
George Galanis, M.D.

Dr. George Galanis has transitioned to the role of Chair of Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging. In this role, Dr. Galanis will work with the radiologists and Diagnostic Imaging leadership team to provide direction for ongoing technological advancement, clinical quality and overall patient safety in the department.

Dr. Galanis joined Lancaster Radiology Associates in 2015, after spending 10 years with Summit Health, where he served as Chairman of Radiology for eight years. Dr. Galanis served as Vice Chair of the Department for the past three years. He has also chaired the Department’s Quality and Patient Safety Committee. Dr. Galanis will continue to play a key clinical role in body imaging. In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Galanis is involved in multiple philanthropic efforts.


Matthew Wiggins
Matthew C. Wiggins, M.D.

Dr. Matthew Wiggins will transition to the role of Vice Chair of Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging.  In this role, Dr. Wiggins will support Dr. Galanis in the strategic and clinical direction of the Department, while continuing to serve as the Section Chief of Musculoskeletal Imaging.

Dr. Wiggins has been with Lancaster Radiology Associates for 13 years and plays a key role in the continued development of Cardiovascular Imaging. Dr. Wiggins will serve as the incoming representative on the hospital Peer Review Committee and as the new Chair of the Department’s Quality and Patient Safety Committee. Dr. Wiggins currently serves as an American College of Radiology Councilor with the Pennsylvania Radiologic Society.


Nitin Tanna
Nitin K. Tanna, M.D.

Dr. Nitin Tanna, Chief of the Division of Breast and Women’s Imaging, will assume an increased role in breast health. Dr. Tanna will continue to provide medical leadership of the Suzanne H. Arnold Center for Breast Health, for which he was instrumental in opening in June 2008, as well as continued leadership of all Ambulatory mammography sites, and quality and compliance for breast imaging throughout our continuum. He has been instrumental in bringing advanced breast imaging technologies to our community. In his enhanced role, he will additionally provide breast imaging leadership to the Breast Oncology Leadership Team, Breast Tumor Board, breast imaging research, artificial intelligence initiatives and all Breast Health subgroups.

Dr. Tanna joined Lancaster Radiology Associates in 2001 and has served as Section Chief of Breast Imaging since 2010. He has served on the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations committees, ABBCI planning and steering Committee 2009-2013, and the 125th anniversary planning committee. He currently serves on the Cancer Committee and the ABBCI development committee and on the Gingham Gala planning committee. He is actively involved with philanthropy throughout our community, the American Cancer Society, the Real Men Wear Pink Campaign, and is active on both the LG Health Foundation Board of Trustees and the Linden Hall Board of Trustees and volunteers his time on science education for the North Museum. He has lectured on Breast Imaging at local and national meetings and has volunteered his time in improving breast health overseas.
