Christine Stabler, M.D., MBA, FAAFP, has been named to the newly created position of Medical Director of Women’s Health for Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health.

In her new role, Dr. Stabler will oversee the Lancaster General Health Physicians Women’s Health Practices and serve as a clinician liaison to Geoff Eddowes, administrative lead of the Women’s Health Service Line. She will lead the development and implementation of a strategic and programmatic approach to serve the health-care needs of women across the continuum. Additionally Dr. Stabler will oversee clinical partnerships with the specialty practices in the Women’s Specialty Center.

In 2011, Dr. Stabler became the first Vice President for Academic Affairs for LG Health, and she will continue to serve in this role. She also will continue to oversee Continuing Medical Education at LG Health, as well as maintaining her clinical practice.

In her leadership roles, Dr. Stabler will continue to report to T. Raymond Foley III, M.D.

Obituary for Henry S. Wentz, M.D., former Chair, Family Medicine

Henry S. Wentz, M.D., former Chair of the LGH Department of Family Medicine, died Jan. 5, at age 98. Dr. Wentz also worked with the LGH Family Medicine Residency Program in the early 1970s, developing the model family practice unit in Quarryville.

After completing his internship and residency at LGH, Dr. Wentz served in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army. He helped establish a group practice at Eastbrook Family Health Center, retiring in 1988 after 40 years. He wrote "Patients Are a Virtue: Practicing Medicine in Pennsylvania Amish Country," which was published in 1997.

Dr. Wentz served as Chair of Family Medicine from 1974 to 1978 and secretary/treasurer of the Medical & Dental Staff from 1967 to 1969. His additional leadership roles include past President of the Lancaster City and County Medical Society, and the Edward Hand Medical Heritage Foundation.

Dr. Wentz was predeceased by his wife of 75 years, Mary. The couple is survived by two children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Family Fun Day at Decades

All providers and their families are invited to a Family Fun Day, 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 28, at Decades, 438 N. Queen St. Lancaster. Activities will include bowling, skee-ball and arcade games. Light refreshments will be served.
