Twins Enjoying Life Today Thanks to Early Diagnosis And In Utero Laser Surgery

Twins and family

Tom and Rochelle Jones were looking forward to the ultrasound at Lancaster General Health that would reveal whether the twins Rochelle was carrying were boys or girls. The last thing they expected to learn was that their girls had twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, a rare and serious condition that can occur when identical twins share a placenta.

“The statistics for survival were pretty dismal,” explains Tom.

But thanks to the collaboration between LG Health and The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, within two days, Rochelle was at CHOP receiving in utero laser surgery that corrected the problem. The babies were born full term at Women & Babies Hospital and today are living active, healthy lives.
