Emmett's Story: Open Heart Surgery Sets Newborn On A Path to Good Health

Nathan and Doriana Musselman went to their 21-week appointment at LG Health Physicians Maternal-Fetal Medicine excited to learn their baby's gender. Little did they expect to discover their baby boy had double inlet left ventricle, a heart defect affecting the valves and chambers of the heart.

Doriana’s delivery was scheduled at the Special Delivery Unit at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where little Emmett had open heart surgery just hours after being born. Today, Emmett is doing great, receiving ongoing care with CHOP specialists close to the Musselman’s home in Lancaster.

“Without the doctors and nurses and everybody at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, we wouldn’t have our baby boy. Without Lancaster General Health, we wouldn’t have known about his diagnosis beforehand. We are so grateful to everyone at both locations,” said Doriana.
