Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine is participating in the first countywide collaboration focused on combating heroin abuse.

The Lancaster County Anti-Heroin Task Force, under the leadership of Tim Bradley, Mayor of Mount Joy Borough, has convened mayors, healthcare professionals, educators, law enforcement and county organizations committed to reducing opioid abuse.

County overdose rates have tripled in the last four years, touching both urban and rural populations. Statewide, more than 2,500 people have died due to drug overdose.

The task force will raise awareness of the detrimental impact and health concerns of heroin, facilitate educational opportunities, and enhance coordination among community groups and service providers.

Upcoming forums will be held in the Mount Joy and Marietta areas.
