Each month, Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine highlights one of our valued partners. Together, we strengthen the health of our community in ways impossible to do alone.

The American Heart Association works to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Among its many activities in Lancaster, its Capital Region Division co-sponsors the LG Health/Penn Medicine annual Start! Walking Day and last year provided materials to build four public gardens as well as a new walking path at Franklin & Marshall College.

This year’s AHA healthy heart plans include the installation of two bike repair stations – one at Lancaster Central Market, the other in Binns Park, providing free air pumps and tools necessary to perform basic bike repairs.  Another school garden is also in the works.

Also, February’s Heart Month kicked off at our Women & Babies Hospital with a special delivery of hand-knitted red caps.  More than 300 woolen bonnets will be given to babies born this month to show support of Little Hats Big Hearts - Lancaster.
