The Leapfrog Group, a national patient-safety watchdog for healthcare consumers, has given Lancaster General Hospital an “A,” ranking it among the safest hospitals in the United States. The Leapfrog rating review, which included 132 Pennsylvania hospitals, measures how often a hospital gives patients recommended treatments, as well as outcomes for patients receiving care. An “A” rating is the highest possible score and reflects an outstanding commitment to patient safety. The Hospital Safety Score grades hospitals on how well they protect patients from preventable errors, injuries, accidents and infections. Awarded twice annually, it combines 28 national patient-safety measures into a single score that reflects a hospital’s overall performance. This Hospital Safety Score is fast becoming the gold standard measure of patient safety. To learn more about Leapfrog and the Hospital Safety Score, visit hospitalsafetyscore.org.
