Increasing the number of children and adults at a healthy weight, one of Lancaster General Health’s community health improvement areas, was the focus of a recent event that supports the promise of engaging, educating and guiding people to take charge of their health.

Children participate in Cooking with Kids at LG Health Lebanon.

In July, LG Health Lebanon hosted Cooking with Kids – a free event for families in the Lebanon community. The event drew over 75 adults and children who learned how to prepare four featured recipes using a muffin tin for portion control.

Led by wellness educators, attendees learned how to add more fruits and vegetables into their diet, the importance of hydration, and how to make mealtime more fun. Sampling the foods and kitchen shortcuts were popular among the junior chefs at this Saturday morning session.

Valuable nutrition messaging was shared with both parents and children.  “I will eat more fruits and veggies, and not candy all the time,” commented a 9-year-old in attendance.
