Local children participate in Farm & Family
Safety Day activities.
For more than 10 years, Safe Kids Lancaster County, in partnership with Lancaster General Health, has hosted Farm and Family Safety Day events throughout the county. To date, there have been over 2,100 participants. This year’s events were held on June 3 at the Robert Fulton Fire Station and June 10 at the Strasburg Fire Station.
The event teaches practical safety measures that families can apply on the farm and at home. The interactive day rotates families through educational stations focusing on topics such as hidden farm hazards, hay holes, skid loaders, fire safety, power equipment, wheeled safety, silo and pit gasses, food safety, and 911. New this year, participants visited stations with information on topics such as hands-only CPR, stroke awareness, and emergency room expectations.
To reinforce information presented at the stations, families received free safety materials including hay hole covers, reflective safety vests, flashers, slow moving vehicle signs, flags for bikes/scooters/pony carts, and informative materials to promote safety on farms.
More than 15 community volunteers from LG Health and Safe Kids Lancaster County helped coordinate the event and educate families.
