In May, an innovative community partnership summit will provide valuable tools that help improve health by alleviating stress and improving well-being.

LiveWell Lancaster, in partnership with the Central Penn Business Group on Health, is sponsoring its sixth annual Health Summit on Thursday May 11, 2017 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Lancaster County Convention Center.

“The summit provides employers with the tools they need to improve the health of their workforce, something they really want,” said Diane Hess, executive director of the Central Penn Business Group on Health. “We know if employers have the resources they need, they can create an environment that helps employees either improve or maintain their health. In turn, these healthy employees will become more involved and engaged, which improves the overall health of our community,” she added.

The summit also provides community residents with resources on where they can go for support and guidance. Hess gave the specific example of a past summit at which tools were shared on how to develop smoke-free playgrounds. The attendees went back to their communities and got this accomplished, giving Lancaster children healthier places to play.

“People are hungry for resources that can help them improve their health,” said Janae Allgire, Director of Behavioral Health at Water Street Health Services who serves as secretary of LiveWELL. “This year’s summit theme of managing stress is a hot topic and we’re looking forward to providing effective tools for improving well-being.”

The summit’s keynote speaker, Dr. Robert Sapolsky, is a noted science and nature writer, biologist and neuroscientist as well as stress expert who teaches at Stanford University.

Four local businesses will also be recognized at the summit for achievements in creating a well workplace (large and small employer categories), facilitating innovative healthcare solutions and positively impacting employees and their communities. Nominations for these awards can be made until March 24.  For more information and to download applications, please visit the group’s Well Workplace Awards webpage.

The LiveWELL Lancaster County Coalition works to help Lancaster county residents achieve optimal health and overall well-being.
