Each year, Safe Kids Lancaster County and Lancaster General Health hold Farm & Family Safety Days, kid-friendly and activity-packed days geared to help prevent and reduce the number of farm-related injuries. The Farm & Safety Days 2017 will each run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the first on Saturday, June 3, at the Robert Fulton Fire Company, 2271 Robert Fulton Hwy, Peach Bottom, and the second on Saturday, June 10, at the Strasburg Fire Company, 203 Franklin St., Strasburg. The events are free but registration is required. A morning snack, lunch, and safety materials are included with registration. At each, community partners will teach practical safety measures families can use on the farm and at home. Presentations are geared to all age levels and attendees rotate through interactive educational stations to learn about topics such as fire, hay holes, confined spaces, large and small equipment, pesticides, silo gas, pit gas, food safety, and wheeled and pedestrian safety. This year, the 911 contact center station includes a telephone simulator so attendees can practice making emergency calls. Certification will also be offered to both children and adults on how to reduce the risk of pesticide poisonings and injury. Safe Kids Lancaster County, led by LG Health, is dedicated to preventing accidental childhood injury and death for children under age 14 through education, collaboration and advocacy. The coalition is comprised of volunteers and representatives from community organizations. For more information, call Sue Lackmann at 717-544-3282 or 1-888-LGH-INFO (544-4636).
