The Commuter Services of Pennsylvania is a non-profit organization that helps area residents identify commuter options available to them. The organization’s Sustainable Transportation Awards Recognition program (known as the STAR program) recognizes employers who have taken an active approach to implement on-site community benefit programs that help their employees.
Alice Yoder, Director of Community Health & Wellness, accepts the Diamond STAR award.
In June, Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health was honored with the Diamond STAR Award, the STAR program’s top honor.
While LG Health promotes carpooling and van pooling, it also offers other commuter benefits to employees including discounted monthly passes for RRTA transit and a qualified transportation account (QTA), which allows employees to use a pre-tax payroll deduction to fund their commuter expense account.
LG Health also encourages both employees and community members alike to “bike it” with convenient bicycle parking at Lancaster General Hospital, sponsored bicycle repair stations in the community, and a sponsored station with Lancaster city’s first ever bike share program – “Bike it Lancaster.”
Walking, bicycling, and using public transit all help increase physical activity and improve the quality of our environment. Supporting efforts related to commuter services is just another way LG Health works to achieve its mission to advance the health and well-being of the communities it serves.
