Recognizing the importance of a healthy diet in achieving and maintaining health, LG Health recently launched a Food Farmacy program at select locations.
This pilot program allows patients that have barriers to securing healthy foods, and may be at risk for diabetes or metabolic syndrome, can be referred to nutrition counseling. The patient is connected to an LG Health nurse or dietitian for twice monthly sessions at a food pantry location to discuss health food options and nutrition information and tools. The patient is also provided with a welcome kit, reusable shopping bag, measuring cups, spoons and recipes.
“Eating healthy foods can lower the risk of health problems—such as high blood pressure, cancer, diabetes and heart disease,” said Laura Sahd, LG Health Community Health Dietitian, Food Farmacy. “Adopting a healthy diet is the best medicine to make a difference in patient’s health.”
