Baby Go Time! Last Minute Details for your Upcoming Stay

As the most current information on COVID-19 becomes available, Women & Babies Hospital responds and adapts to keep you and your baby safe. We want you to have the most up-to-date information on policies and procedures so you know what to expect when you come in to deliver your baby. Please join us online, via the Blue Jeans app, for an update session led by one of our nurse educators. Final Countdown Tour

If your due date is only a few weeks away and you haven’t visited or taken a Childbirth Preparation class at Women & Babies Hospital, this mini-class and tour is the perfect opportunity to have all your last-minute questions answered. We’ll cover check-in/discharge procedures, triage, amenities for laboring moms and new families, visitation policies, and security systems.

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a childbirth preparation class. It is specifically for those in the final weeks of pregnancy.

New Parent Discussion/Baby Weigh Station

NOTE: The Weigh Station is not currently offered. You’re invited to drop by and weigh your baby from 10:30 am to 11:15 am and then stay for discussion afterward. This is a great way to monitor your baby’s growth between doctor visits, as well as connect with other new parents in an informal setting. Discussion topics are relevant to new parents and are facilitated by a group leader.

Newborns/infants up to one year of age are welcome.

This group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month in the 1st Floor Conference Room at Women & Babies Hospital.

No registration is required. No fee to attend.

Approaches to Un-Medicated Birth

Natural coping techniques are becoming a more common approach to avoid pain medication during childbirth. Explore the physiology of natural pain management, experiment with more advanced comfort techniques, and discover ideas for effective labor support in this class.

Baby Care Basics

Our childbirth educator will guide you through what to expect during your baby’s hospital stay, including newborn and rooming in procedures. We’ll also help you feel more confident in your ability to care for your newborn by demonstrating bathing, swaddling and diapering techniques. Developmental milestones, brain development, feeding, health promotion and safety will also be reviewed so you can go home as prepared as you are proud.

Join our certified lactation consultant to learn why breastfeeding is so beneficial for your baby and get practical how-to information that will help you continue to breastfeed after you leave the hospital.

Childbirth Preparation

Expecting your first baby? Our team of childbirth educators will guide you through all your options. Explore the process of labor and birth, including what to expect at the end of pregnancy, labor signs, relaxation and comfort techniques, medical procedures and options, and the immediate postpartum period. We’ll also discuss good labor support, so bring your partner!

Father’s Boot Camp

This one-session class for fathers only is designed to help you step up to the challenges of fatherhood. Under the guidance of an experienced dad, expecting dads will be able to practice baby care skills, network, and be able to ask other men about important issues such as how to best support a new mom, breastfeeding, and the changing physical and emotional changes of your partner.

Grandparenting in the 21st Century

Are you ready to be a modern grandparent? Trends in labor, birth, and childcare have changed drastically over the years. This class was designed to help create understanding and communication between new parents and grandparents by explaining the latest ideas in obstetrics, child care, and safety.

Infant CPR

Taught by a registered nurse certified by the American Heart Association, this class provides hands on instruction for infant CPR and choking. Each registrant will receive a take-home kit, which includes a CPR manikin, practice DVD, and a skills reminder card. This is not a certification class but does focus on the rescue skills needed to handle an emergency.

Night Night Newborn

Taught by a Certified Infant/Toddler Sleep Consultant, this class is for both expecting parents and new families with babies up to 8 weeks old. Learn all about the science of newborn sleep, how sleep changes as baby develops, safe sleep, and what you can do to practice good “sleep hygiene” with baby. This is not a sleep-training method, but it is a great way to set the stage so that everyone can get a good night’s sleep.

  • When should I take this class? Any time during pregnancy, or up until baby is 8 weeks old.

Infants up to 8 weeks old are also welcome to attend.

Pregnancy Yoga

Pregnancy is a special time, and yoga is an ideal way to get in touch with your changing body and deepen your connection with your unborn baby. In this class, you can enjoy a community of other mothers-to-be as you relax your body and mind through gentle postures, breath work, vocal toning and meditation. You can also learn how to use yoga to prepare for your labor and delivery.

Sibling Class

Help your little ones get ready for this new and exciting addition to the family. Our class will help children learn about how babies arrive (in an age appropriate way), what they will look like, and how to be a great big brother/sister. A guided tour of the postpartum area will help little ones feel less apprehensive when visiting mommy and the new baby. A short movie, snack for the kids, crafts, and activities are included. Bring along a favorite doll or stuffed animal to practice holding and diapering.

This class is for children 2 ½ to 8 years old.

Twins & More

Our experts will help you navigate some of the challenges that may come with a multiple birth. Learn what to expect during labor, birth, the immediate postpartum period in the hospital, breastfeeding, and recovery. This class is specifically about the twin (or multiple) experience and should be taken in addition to a Childbirth Preparation class.
