The Trauma and Acute Care Services team provides diagnosis and treatment for patients who experience major traumatic injuries often resulting from motor vehicle, farm or industrial accidents, falls, or gunshot wounds. Lancaster General Hospital is the only accredited Level II Trauma Center in Lancaster County. A trauma surgeon is onsite 24 hours a day and a dedicated operating room, equipped with the most advanced tools for delivering high-quality emergency treatment, is available the moment it is needed.
Trauma care may begin while emergency medical services crews are transporting patients to the hospital. A special area of the emergency department is designated solely for the resuscitation of trauma patients. Care continues through surgery, recovery in our Trauma Neuro Intensive Care Unit, discharge, and follow-up visits at our trauma clinic. Physicians, nurses, and surgeons in almost every discipline, are ready to respond 24/7.
