At the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute, we've brought together the area's leading oncology experts, advanced technology, and an array of services to guide and support patients through the continuum of care—all under one roof in a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility. As part of our ongoing commitment to bring advanced medicine to the Lancaster community, we are excited to now offer cancer patients life-saving proton therapy treatment. Ours is the first and only Proton Therapy Center in Central Pennsylvania.

Our oncology program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons (ACOS). Medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons and other specialists work in teams organized by cancer specialty, for more effective collaboration and patient convenience. As Penn Medicine, we also consult with our colleagues at the Abramson Cancer Center, a world leader in cancer research, patient care, and education.

Every feature of our two-story, 90,000-square-foot Cancer Institute was designed to enhance patients' physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide natural light and landscaped views, while soothing colors, contemporary artwork and spacious surroundings offer a calming environment. Patients and families needing a quiet moment can visit our tranquil healing garden or the peaceful meditation pavilion.

Committed to our Community

The Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute is built on a National Cancer Institute model for a community cancer center, which recognizes that most cancer treatment will remain local. We are committed to delivering hands-on, personalized care that reflects our community values. Patients in Lancaster receive compassionate, high quality cancer care from physicians they know and trust, along with a comprehensive array of supportive services to help patients and families navigate every step of their cancer journey. When appropriate, we facilitate seamless referrals to the Abramson Cancer Center in Philadelphia, giving local patients expanded care options.

Our History

LG Health joined the Penn Cancer Network as one of its founding members in 1994. Through this partnership, the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute has provided the community with exceptional cancer care close to home as well as access to the world-class services of Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center. After more than two decades of collaboration through the Penn Cancer Network, Lancaster General Health joined the University of Pennsylvania Health System (Penn Medicine) on August 1, 2015.

As part of Penn Medicine, our patients benefit from the collaborative efforts of experts here at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Center and at Penn’s Abramson Cancer Center—one of the nation’s foremost leaders in cancer research, patient care, and education.

Here, physicians and highly skilled oncology teams bring you leading-edge prevention, detection, treatment and survivorship programs. Medical oncologists and surgeons have been pioneers in treating breast, lung, prostate and gynecologic cancers. Radiation oncologists lead the way in using state-of-the-art technology to more precisely target, and destroy cancer.

Gifts made to the Cancer Institute are used to develop and enhance programs and services, designed to complement the Cancer Institute’s holistic approach to cancer care. Please contact the LG Health Foundation if you're interested in making a gift to the Cancer Institute.
