This tour is designed for those who are considering starting a family, are early in their pregnancy, and have not yet decided where to give birth, or those who plan to deliver at Women and Babies Hospital in the near future. Our childbirth educator will lead you through our state-of-the-art facility, answer your questions, and help you feel comfortable and confident in your choice of Women and Babies Hospital. Partners and families are welcome.

Baby Care Basics

Our childbirth educator will guide you through what to expect during your baby’s hospital stay, including newborn and rooming-in procedures. We will help you feel more confident in your ability to care for your newborn by demonstrating bathing, swaddling, and diapering techniques. Developmental milestones, brain development, feeding, health promotion, and safety are topics that will be reviewed so you can go home as prepared, as you are proud. A partner can join you at no additional charge.

Understanding Birth In-person/E-learning Blended Class

This is a blended learning class that includes an at-home eClass AND a 4-hour in-person class at Women and Babies Hospital. The eClass will familiarize you with what to expect toward the end of pregnancy, the labor process, comfort techniques, pain management, possible medical intervention, breastfeeding, and what happens during the postpartum period. It includes videos, animations, activities, PDFs, and helpful resources. A Childbirth Educator will lead your in-person education with a review of the birth process and hands-on demonstrations and practice of relaxation and comfort techniques. There will be ample opportunity for discussion and questions. Your instructor will highlight key topics and hospital-specific information so you can better understand what your care at Women and Babies Hospital will look like. This is a great class to attend with your birth partner so you can both learn what to expect and prepare well for your birth.

Sibling Class

Help your little ones get ready for this new and exciting addition of a sibling to the family! Our class will help children learn about how babies arrive (in an age-appropriate way), what they will look like, and how to be a great big brother/sister. A guided tour of the postpartum area will help little ones feel less apprehensive when visiting mommy and the new baby. Your children will even have the opportunity to meet a new baby before watching a short movie and participating in some crafts and activities.

Understanding Multiples

Having more than one baby might multiply the excitement, but it can also multiply the new family challenges! Understanding Multiples is an interactive eClass specifically for parents expecting twins or more. Working through the eClass online at your own pace, you'll get information on pregnancy, labor and birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum--all unique to the concerns of a multiple birth. Helpful tips on how to navigate the early weeks at home are included also.
