Our Heart & Vascular Institute offers the full range of tests to help determine your risk for a heart problem. And if you have a heart condition, our advanced heart tests provide the information needed to create an effective treatment plan.

By capturing still or moving images of your heart and blood vessels, doctors can:

  • Check your pacemaker or other implanted device
  • Help you understand the cause of symptoms like chest discomfort, shortness of breath or irregular heartbeats
  • Determine how well your heart valves are working
  • Identify ways to improve and stop these symptoms and their causes
  • Look for structural problems in your heart
  • Monitor your heart’s electrical system
  • See how your heart handles exercise and stress

With this information, experts in our Preventive Cardiology and Apheresis Clinic can also help you prevent heart disease, navigate challenges and make healthier choices.

Heart Disease Diagnosis: Why Choose Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health?

We perform about 44,000 heart tests each year—and you benefit from our experience. Our heart tests are among the most accurate available and take less of your time. We also focus on giving you a comfortable, convenient experience.

Choosing us means receiving world-class heart care 15 minutes (or less) from home. We have the knowledge, technology and compassion to provide great outcomes for all cardiovascular conditions.

You can also expect:

  • Expertise: Our team includes doctors called advanced cardiac imagers. These cardiologists have completed the highest level of specialty training (fellowship training) in cardiac imaging. And our whole staff has the highest level of imaging certifications available. They include certifications from the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board and American Society of Echocardiography.
  • Quality: Our labs have accreditations from the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL) and Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories (ICANL). Only the highest quality labs with easy access to care earn these distinctions. We’ve held them for more than a decade.
  • Multidisciplinary teamwork: Heart imaging captures pictures of nearby organs and structures like your lungs and spine. Radiologists with special expertise in imaging these areas partner with our cardiac imagers to read scans. This collaboration leads to a detailed review of your images and an effective treatment plan.
  • Latest technology: The foundation for a good outcome is a highly precise diagnosis. That’s why we have invested in the most modern equipment available. Our technology makes already safe radiation doses safer. We also use scanners that detect heart and vascular problems earlier and take more precise images in half the time.
  • Convenience: We offer heart imaging and heart diagnostic tests at 15 locations across Central Pennsylvania. Visit us within minutes of where you live, work or receive heart care. See our outpatient cardiac testing locations

Types of Heart and Vascular Tests We Offer

Cardiac CT

Cardiac CT is a noninvasive way to obtain detailed 3D images of the heart. This advanced heart imaging technology diagnoses coronary heart disease and more.

Cardiac MRI

Cardiac MRI takes detailed images of your beating heart—without radiation. These images help your doctor create effective treatment plans for problems like coronary heart disease, heart failure, valve issues and COVID-related issues like myocarditis.

Echocardiogram

Echocardiography is an ultrasound test that examines the structures and motion of your heart and blood vessels. Our echocardiogram machines provide 3D images in less time than a traditional echo, including for transesophageal echocardiography.

Electrophysiology Clinic

Our Electrophysiology Clinic offers the latest diagnostic and treatment services for people with heart rhythm problems, including atrial fibrillation.

Heart Catheterization

Our Cardiac Catheterization Lab offers a variety of procedures to diagnose and treat cardiovascular conditions. As a high-volume cardiac cath lab, we use our extensive experience to deliver low complication rates and great outcomes.

Holter and Event Monitoring (Ambulatory EKG)

Holter and event monitors are wearable devices that record your heart rhythm while you go about your daily activities.

Nuclear Stress Tests and Cardiac Nuclear Medicine

Cardiac nuclear medicine shows heart function using a safe, microscopic dose of radiation. Our nuclear medicine detectors take the already safe dose of radiation and reduce it by half. Learn more about cardiac nuclear medicine, including MUGA tests.

Stress Tests

Exercise stress tests detect changes in your heart during exercise. Chemical stress tests are available for people who can’t exercise. From prompt test results to our caring staff, we give you the best experience possible.

Vascular Imaging

Our vascular imaging experts use noninvasive ultrasound technology to help diagnose venous and arterial diseases.
